Contribution of inland waterway to EU 2020 Policy – Waterways Forward workshop

During the Milan/Ferrara Partners’ Meeting Landscape Interface Studio ran a short workshop asking the partners to identify various creative uses for their waterways and lakes.  Many of the partners identifies sources in the cultural & creative industries

At present cultural & creative industries directly generates 3% of EU GDP with a market value of €500b and employs 6m – 3% of European labour force and is recognised as increasing source of growth in the EU

The Waterways Forward project has identified a range of good practices including “Involvement of public through memories & biodiversity” propose by Voies Navigables de France   The idea of the project is to regenerate the canals of Dunkerque, abandoned nowadays through memories and involvement of inhabitants along and on the canals because it use to be the reason for the economy of the city.  Lessons learnt from the practice – – the role of art as a lever for regeneration and the creation of a tourist itinerary for users in the canal network of Northern France.
