Waterways Forward partners were guests of  Waterways Ireland at the partners’ meeting held in Ireland on 14-16 September 2011 which formed a key milestone in the Waterways Forward project. The meeting brought together experts with Waterways Forward partners to address the two broad themes of the project – governance and the environment & climate change.

Waterways Ireland is one of six cross-border bodies set up as a result of the British – Irish Agreement of 1999. It is responsible for the management, maintenance, development and restoration of the network of navigable rivers, canals and lakes in both Ireland and Northern Ireland, principally for recreation purposes. Its Headquarters are in the town of Enniskillen.  Field visits in both Dublin and Enniskillen allowed Masterclass participants to see how Waterways Ireland are managing and developing their waterway network.

An interim exhibition developed by the Landscape Interface Studio, Kingston University was presented in Dublin Castle on the first day of the meeting.  The exhibition featured a series of good practice posters previously identifies by partners.  The good practices formed the basis of the masterclass content and discussions.
