Waterways Forward: EU2020 Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth Animation
This short film features work by Mariana Santos, Victoria Rivera and Room60 in collaboration with Landscape Interface Studio, Kingston University for the Interreg IVC Waterways Forward project. The animation illustrates how waterways contribute to Europe2020 — the European Union’s 10 year growth strategy. Specifically, how Europe’s inland waterways can help deliver the 3 main pillars of EU2020. These specially commissioned animations and videos – here combined as one film – each represent these 3 main growth areas – Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth.
Waterways Forward’s Final Conference took place in Paris, on November 7th and brought together more than 80 professionals, experts, EU and national level politicians to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the socio economic development of inland European rivers, lakes, canals and adjacent areas.
The Conference presented new and innovative insights for exploring and exploiting the great potential of these waterways for economic development and employment in line with the Europe 2020 strategic objectives.
The findings and results of the project were displayed in an exhibition held in association with the project’s final conference. It demonstrated in a creative and innovative way the evolution of Waterways Forward and highlighted the policy recommendations developed during the project, and how they are linked to the Europe 2020 themes of Smart, Sustainable, and Inclusive, Growth. It also set out what needs to be done to realise the benefits of the economic development opportunities of inland waterways, while respecting the environment and cultural heritage.
